A new Chief Executive has been appointed to lead Emmaus Bradford. Darrell Tinsley joins the organisation bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting vulnerable people. He has worked in the third sector for over eight years and has had lived experience in homelessness and the criminal justice system.
At age 20, Darrell was sent to prison for committing his first and last crime. The experience changed his life and he vowed to make something of himself and help others. After his release from prison, he began volunteering in a youth club and then went on to find paid employment in youth work.
Moving up the ranks, Darrell went on to become Area Manager for a young person’s charity, delivering multi-millionpound contracts across the UK.
His latest role was Business Development Manager for Clifton Housing Project, an organisation that houses and provides support to vulnerable and disadvantaged adults from a variety of backgrounds.
Talking about his appointment to the role of Emmaus Bradford, Darrell said: “I am testament to the fact that there is light at the end of the tunnel and making mistakes doesn’t have to mean your life is over.
“I am incredibly excited to take on the role of CEO for Emmaus Bradford. We’ve got plans to build our companion community, allowing more people who are experiencing homelessness in Bradford the opportunity to regain control of their lives. I’m also incredibly keen to develop and build on our current relationships with external agencies who can work with us to end homelessness in Bradford.”
Emmaus Bradford is a homelessness charity with a difference. As well as providing a home, support and training, it provides an opportunity for people to work, regain focus and build back confidence and self-esteem.
Sarah Dixon, Chair of Emmaus Bradford said:
“Darrell is joining us at an exciting time when we are expanding our capacity at Pollard House, where our community is based, enabling us to help more homeless people into supportive accommodation and work. Darrell has the skills and understanding not only to ensure that our community continues to grow and prosper, but also to make a huge success of the social enterprises that drive our financial sustainability and provide work for our companions”
