Emmaus Bradford has taken ownership of a former residential care home on Pollard Lane in Bradford, where it hopes to offer a lifeline to people sleeping rough or sofa surfing in the district. The charity has opened an Emmaus community there, providing long-term accommodation alongside training and work experience in the our reuse shops.

With your support and continued fundraising, our goal is to turn this building into a community for up to 25 people.

People have always been at the heart of what we do at Emmaus Bradford. From charity shop donors to our customers and volunteers, the reason our homelessness charity has reached this exciting stage in our development is down to the people involved.

Homelessness support

Pollard House General Manager Fran Graham 021221

We understand it takes time to rebuild lost confidence and self-esteem. Unlike many homeless shelters, Emmaus Bradford’s community offers homeless people a second chance for as long as they need, until they are ready to move on. With the right support, training and meaningful work in our social enterprises, we can give disadvantaged people the opportunity to regain control of their lives.

Homeless accommodation

Emmaus Bradford’s community building, Pollard House, is a former care home that overlooks a golf course in Undercliffe, Bradford. All rooms will have their own private bathroom and access to a wide range of communal facilities, including a kitchen, dining room, lounge and garden.

We want to build a community that provides people with the opportunity of living and working alongside others in a supportive friendly environment.

Help grow our community

To grow our community, we need your help. We’re looking for people and businesses to sponsor a room to help us kit out and decorate this new home. Let’s make it sparkle for when we come to welcome our first companions.

To achieve this, we will need help from teams of volunteers to decorate, repair, and garden. We need toiletries suppliers, furniture and bathroom wholesalers, carpet shops and fitters, and businesses selling workwear and clothing for companions.

We’re looking for people to help us with the basics of running a home too, from experts in health and safety for shared living, through to experienced tradespeople who can lend a hand with the regular maintenance of our lovely new building, inside and out.

If any of these sound like you or you know of someone who can help, please contact emmausbradford@outlook.com or call 01274 955 870.

For more details about the community please contact darrell@emmausbradford.org.uk or leave a message with 01274 955 870.
