To mark World Homeless Day (10 October), we are announcing a book launch event for our recently published anthology Street Life, a collection of short stories that depict homelessness in many forms: human, animal, in the city, countryside, and even in the world of ghosts.
Each story in Street Life has been donated to our charity by best-selling authors with links to the South West of England, including Bruce Aiken, Elizabeth Revill and Helen Garlick, with all profits from book sales going to Emmaus Cornwall.
These funds will support the establishment of an Emmaus community in Cornwall, providing accommodation, work experience, training, and tailored support for individuals who have experienced homelessness.
The book launch event is free and open to all and will take place on Saturday 21 October, starting at 5:30pm, at the Carlyon Bay Hotel Golf Club, PL25 3RD. At the event, two of the contributing authors will be present to read excerpts from their stories, providing insights into the book’s themes.
Sue Trewella, trustee at Emmaus Cornwall, said:
“We are delighted to be holding a book launch for Street Life. This project was a collaborative effort between Emmaus Cornwall, Blue Poppy Publishers and author Elizabeth Revill, who curated the book. Volunteers contributed their time and expertise, including all the authors who gave their stories, a graphic designer responsible for the cover, a volunteer who assisted with typesetting and formatting, and a proofreader.
“We hope our book launch event will offer an opportunity for local residents to come together, support our mission to open accommodation in Cornwall for those who need it most, and learn more about the many forms of homelessness by picking up a copy of Street Life.”
Street Life is priced at £9.99 and is available from Amazon, Blue Poppy Publishers and The Book Shop in Wadebridge, Winestone’s in Sidmouth, or Walter Henry’s in Bideford. Copies will be available to purchase at the launch event.
