When you donate goods including furniture and clothing to Emmaus Hastings & Rother, you have a direct impact on the lives of people working hard to rebuild their lives following homelessness.
We depend on your continued support and kind donations of pre-loved furniture and other items to keep us going and we always do our utmost to sell, recycle or re-use to grow an income from everything you give us. You can help us by checking below what we can and can’t take and making sure your items are in a good clean condition.
Please note: Drop-off donations will need to be pre-booked from January 2023, we will no longer be accepting walk-ins.

We are happy to accept most household items but there are some exceptions for either legal or practical reasons. This includes soft furnishings without a fire label, safety items, baby equipment or any item that is not in a good, saleable condition. For a full list of items we can and cannot accept, please take a look below.
We welcome donations of good quality furniture, clothes, toys, books, and bric-a-brac. We also accept working electrical appliances such as washing machines or fridge freezers, alongside smaller electrical items such as flat-screen TVs and lamps. Please note clothing donations are limited to a maximum of 3 large bags or 5 smaller bags per person due to limited storage.
As a charity which sells pre-loved items, we rely on the generous donations of members of the public. Items donated to our shop allow our community to continue providing a home, meaningful work and support the people living with us. We are grateful to receive donations of the following:
Clothing in good condition & accessories
New Shoes – new or nearly new only (we do not take used or old shoes and wellies)
Bric-a-brac – no chipped or broken items, no plastic, and no food filled items
Kitchenware – in good condition
Crafting items, knitting wool, etc.
Soft furnishings with a valid 1988 Fire Safety Label (beds, sofas, etc)
White goods/Some Electricals (e.g. in good working order fridges, freezers, lamps etc)
Toys – New and nearly new with CE label – must be clean, complete, saleable and undamaged
Artificial Christmas Trees
Pictures and photo frames
Bed Linen (unless new)
Towels (unless new)
Duvets and pillows (unless new and in their packaging)
Sleeping bags and tents
Used or old shoes
Used socks and underwear
Large Wall units/corner units
Small electricals kettles/toasters/used hair appliances/unboxed kitchen items
Baby equipment: Prams, pushchairs, cots, carriers, car seats, highchairs etc
Old board games in poor condition or with missing pieces
Printers and photocopiers
Tins containing paraffin, petrol or any other flammables
Used Tins of paint
Toys without a valid CE Safety Mark
