Here at Emmaus Hull & East Riding, with your support, we are working together to make a real difference to the lives of people who experience homelessness.
For many of the people we support, having an opportunity to contribute to society whilst being part of a supportive community, rebuilds their confidence and self-esteem. Emmaus doesn’t just provide a bed for the night. We offer a home for as long as someone needs it, a tailored support package and meaningful work in our community and social enterprise.
Emmaus Hull & East Riding is based in a purpose-built community building, called The Orchard. Our residential community is home for up to 30 formerly homeless people, known as companions. Our community provides companions with the support network and sense of belonging that many people who have experienced homelessness may have lost. It’s a safe and caring place where people can settle and rebuild their lives.
Since 2016, Emmaus Hull & East riding has delivered a successful rough sleeper outreach service. Trained support workers, including some of our companions, meet people who are street homeless to offer friendly advice, items, signposting and access to further support. They do this by meeting individuals with a caring and positive attitude so that trust is established and the best result is achieved. Working alongside a wide range of partners, our commissioned outreach services have achieved many successful outcomes.
A large proportion of our charity’s income is generated via our social enterprise. Emmaus Hull & East Riding’s main social enterprise is based around our charity shops and the collection and sale of furniture, household goods, clothes, textiles, books, music, and bric-a-brac. All our companions directly contribute within our social enterprise, gaining valuable skills, confidence and experience to help them achieve their personal goals.
