A team of fundraisers have successfully completed a hike to the top of Snowdon in support of Emmaus Leeds.

On Sunday 7 July, community members from Emmaus Leeds teamed up with friends of the charity for the Emmaus Homeless Hike. In total, 27 people hiked to the summit of the highest mountain in Wales and in the process, raised more than £1,000 for Emmaus Leeds.

Richard, companion at Emmaus Leeds, said: “Snowdon was a great experience for me. The money we raised will help to enable the companions who live here to do activities in the future. It was a great day and a good time was had by all. Well done to everyone who took part in the adventure.”

Formerly homeless people who are supported by Emmaus Leeds were joined volunteers, staff and supporters including students from Leeds Arts University and staff members from Corecom Consulting. Money raised from the hike will go towards the Emmaus Leeds social fund, enabling their beneficiaries to attend events and activities which benefit their mental and physical well-being.

Emmaus Leeds supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. The charity has its main community building and social enterprise on St Mary’s Street, a stall at Kirkgate Market and a charity shop in Halton.

Donald Forrester, Chief Executive of Emmaus Leeds, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the hike up Snowdon and sharing the experience with both our community members and friends of Emmaus Leeds. I would like to thank all those who took part in the hike and the many people who have donated money to the fundraiser. The funds raised will bring fresh opportunities to the people we support, making a real positive impact on their health and well-being.”

The Emmaus Leeds community have completed several walking challenges in recent years for a variety of local causes. The concept of solidarity, helping others less fortunate than yourself, is a central ethos of Emmaus and a motivation for the people who completed the Emmaus Homeless Hike.
