It’s cold outside. Here are some tips for helping people who are sleeping rough in Leicestershire and Rutland during the winter months:

1) Stop and talk – loneliness is a big problem. Ask if there is anything they need or would like – a hot drink or something warm to eat. Or offer a warm coat, blanket, gloves or a hat.

2) Alert Streetlink. Give as much detail about the individual’s location as you can. Visit www.streetlink.org.uk or download the Streetlink app

3) If a person is in immediate danger, or you believe they are under 18, call 999

4) You can help by donating your unwanted items to Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland – we’re happy to accept most quality clothing and household items. The items are then sold in our shops to raise funds to help us continue to change the lives of formerly homeless people in your area. If possible, we ask that you drop-off your donated items to one of our shops or arrange a free collection for larger items.

5) Donate  to, or volunteer  with, local homelessness charities such as Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland

Thank you for caring
