At Emmaus Mossley we offer a home, work and personal support to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
Emmaus Mossley is not just a large charity shop – it’s a thriving community that is home to 26 people. We don’t just give people a bed for the night; we offer a home, stability, companionship, work and a sense of belonging.
At the heart of Emmaus Mossley is our companions – the people we support. Our charity’s main focus is on supporting people, providing a home for as long as someone needs it and meaningful work in our social enterprise. Living in a stable environment with the opportunity to work helps our companions, as residents are known, to regain lost self-esteem and the confidence to get back on their feet.
Emmaus Mossley is an independent local charity that is governed by a board of trustees who all live, work or are invested in the improvement of Tameside, Oldham and its surrounding communities. Whilst our work is focused locally, we are also proud and active members of the Emmaus UK federation, Emmaus Europe and Emmaus International.
When we talk about our community, we mean both the building that provides a home to our companions and the diverse range of people who support the Emmaus Mossley charity.
The Emmaus Mossley community includes our companions, staff, local volunteers and trustees, as well as all the people who shop with us, donate goods and fundraise to support our work. In addition to work within our charity and social enterprise, our community members are also actively involved in solidarity projects and initiatives to improve our local area.
Our social enterprise activity is centred around the large Emmaus Mossley Secondhand Superstore where we collect and sell a wide range of donated items.
Emmaus Mossley is unique in that our companions work in every area of our social enterprise. Without their skills, experience, hard work and dedication our charity would not function.
We have our own workshops where donated goods are repaired, refurbished, upcycled or upholstered. Companions are offered the opportunity to learn a variety of skills and gain valuable work experience.
