Formerly homeless people supported by Emmaus North East have created a banner to say thank you to NHS staff and key workers during the coronavirus pandemic. Companions hold banner thanking NHS staff and key workers

The banner is displayed outside the accommodation building in South Shields which provides a home for 15 people who have experienced homelessness. Some of those supported by the charity have received help and care from NHS staff and key workers in the past so they wanted to show their appreciation for the brave staff continuing to work throughout the crisis.

During the pandemic, the charity has closed it’s shops which are normally staffed by the people it supports, offering them meaningful work and a chance to rebuild their self-esteem. The charity is continuing to run its social supermarket, Lucie’s Pantry, which provides food and household items to local families struggling to make ends meet through debt, illness or low income.

Emmaus North East is accepting donations of tins, pasta, long-life items and household cleaning items for Lucie’s Pantry. For businesses or individuals able to donate items, call 0191 497 5302 or email to arrange a contact free collection or drop off.
