Emmaus North East is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help us deliver our strategy.
We are actively looking for dynamic, enterprising and innovative people to strengthen our existing board of trustees. Trustees play an invaluable role to help those experiencing homelessness and social exclusion by developing our community and enterprises.
If you have a desire to work to end homelessness and social exclusion in the North East, we want to hear from you. We are particularly interested in those with experience in the areas of:
All these skills would diversify the Emmaus North East Board in areas that are vital for the implementation of our strategy at an exciting period of growth and development in the organisation.
At present trustees meet as a board (virtually at present) once a month and individual Trustees would be required to support Emmaus in other ways as their time permits in specific project groups. Trustees would need to be able to make a commitment to Emmaus and its principles, have social concern, independent judgement and work as part of a diverse team. Trustees must be at least 18 years of age.
This is a voluntary role but we can reimburse travel and out-of-pocket expenses.

Since opening a community in 2016 at South Shields, Emmaus North East been a home to over 100 people facing homelessness and social exclusion (referred to in Emmaus as companions). Through our range of social enterprises, we provide a home, meaningful work and the opportunity to help others in need within our local community.
At present we operate three charity shops (Low Fell, Hebburn and Gateshead), a woodwork enterprise and social supermarket with plans to develop further businesses, allowing us to achieve our strategic ambition of financial self-sustainability without recourse to public funds in the next five years.
Exciting plans for expansion and growth of social enterprises and the community are in place for 2021 that require engaged and adaptive leadership. Building transformative change in our local area and helping people who have been excluded to progress and find purpose.
