The birthday bash celebrated 10 years since the opening of our homelessness charity on Oxford Road. Staff, supporters and companions attended the event.
Guests enjoyed a buffet with birthday cake as well as a special exhibition featuring displays of photographs representing our history.
Since opening our doors in 2009, Emmaus Oxford has grown considerably. We provide a home and meaningful work for 28 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Some stay for a while as they gain confidence and skills before they are ready to move on to independent living, while others are in need of longer-term support and are able to stay for as long as they need to. Those supported at the community live together and help to run our store on nearby Barns Road.
The celebration was a real success. It was a chance to showcase what we do as a charity, giving key partners as well as old and new supporters, the opportunity to meet some of the people we support and find out first-hand how we help. Our 10th anniversary has given us an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come as a charity. Unfortunately, with homelessness numbers continuing to rise, our work today is more vital than ever before. Over the next 10 years we will be helping even more people and strengthening our financial independence.
