Every year, hundreds of dedicated Emmaus UK supporters take on bold and inspiring challenges—often trying something entirely new—to raise vital funds for our homelessness charity.

Janet, a companion at Emmaus Oxford, is no exception. Janet approached Emmaus Oxford after finding herself homeless following her graduation from university, where she had earned a degree in law.

Now, inspired by the community that has welcomed her, Janet is preparing to take on a skydiving challenge in the spring, to raise funds for Emmaus Oxford. Her goal is to help ensure that the charity can continue to provide a warm, supportive environment, meaningful work and training opportunities, plus much more, to those experiencing homelessness across the UK.

“Emmaus is incredibly close to my heart”

Speaking about her upcoming fundraiser, Janet said: “The work that Emmaus Oxford does for the community is truly inspiring, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to fundraise for such a meaningful organisation”.

With more than 850 Emmaus companions living in communities stretching from Glasgow to Dover, each one operating a shop or social enterprise, no two communities are identical. They have their own distinctive personality, catering to the needs of their local area and providing a variety of services.

For Janet, Emmaus Oxford has been a beacon of hope, providing her with the security and time she needed to reflect, plan, and move forward with her life.

”With support from Emmaus, I can finally make longer term plans; I am learning to drive and I’ve been volunteering at local organisations in order to gain valuable legal experience, which I hope helps with the next step in my journey to becoming a barrister”.
