Congratulations to companion Shane, who has started a placement at Oxford Wood Recycling for the next 6-9 months.
Before Emmaus, Shane was homeless. After sleeping rough for two years, he moved to Emmaus Oxford in 2017 and has spent his time with us gaining new skills in furniture making and restoration. Now with his BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Cabinet Making and Level 3 Diploma in Furniture Making, Shane is embarking on a new journey to hone his skills even further.
Emmaus Oxford provides a home and meaningful work for 28 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. Those supported at the community live together and help to run our charity’s store on Barns Road in Cowley. We’ve given Shane a home whilst he rebuilds his life, and commenting on his newest training opportunity, Shane said:
“After 31 years, I think I’ve finally found my little niche, the thing I want to do with my life. It’s a good feeling. For years, I never knew what I wanted to do. Working in retail is all I ever knew; it was my bread and butter so to speak. It’s good now that I’ve done my college courses, because it’s opened my eyes up to other opportunities.”
