Emmaus Salford is using Trustees’ Week 2020 to appeal for a qualified accountant to join our Board of Trustees.
Emmaus Salford is a charity that supports 25 formerly homeless people by providing a stable home, meaningful work and support for as long as they need it. Trustees play a vital role at our charity, using their skills, knowledge and experience to help in our organisation’s development and governance.
Hilary Dunn, Chair of Trustees at Emmaus Salford, said: “After 8 years, I am still a trustee at Emmaus Salford and it gives me a real buzz. What I like about Emmaus is the fact that everyone is treated with respect. No one is judged on their past and everyone is given a chance.”
“Trustees are essential to any charity. They are responsible for the way in which the charity is managed and financed, within the context of the purpose of that particular charity. I like to think that whilst we do not physically ‘drive the train’ we are the support, infrastructure and rails keeping the whole organisation on track.”
Trustees’ Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference. There are over 1 million people who volunteer their time as charity trustees across the UK. The average trustee in England and Wales is 59 years old but there are many young trustees too with some 86,000 trustee positions held by 16-34 year olds.
Hilary added: “We really need a new trustee who will become our charity’s Treasurer. We are looking for someone with a good dose of common sense, empathy with the aims of Emmaus and a willingness to be an active member of our board. It is a very rewarding role and the sense of achievement is huge, especially when you see people progress. So, if there are any qualified accountants out there with time on their hands, we’d love to hear from you.”
Trustees at Emmaus Salford meet as a board once a month, currently via Zoom, and individual trustees may also get involved in other ways, as their time permits. We provide full induction training and offer reimbursements for travel expenses.
