As the school year draws to a close and families begin preparing for the new term, Emmaus Salford is reminding Salford residents about its School Uniform Hub, which provides free school uniforms and shoes to children in need.
First launched in August 2020 in collaboration with Guinness Partnership and Sal’s Shoes, the School Uniform Hub continues to be a vital resource for families struggling with the rising cost of school essentials. With demand expected to increase over the summer, the charity is encouraging families and referral partners to make use of this service in time for the new school year.
“We know that the cost of preparing children for school can be overwhelming, especially during the summer holidays,” said Jackie Smith, Chief Executive at Emmaus Salford. “That’s why we want to remind families across Salford that our School Uniform Hub is here to help. No child should have to miss school or feel excluded because they don’t have the right uniform.”
The Hub provides a wide range of items, including shirts, sweatshirts, trousers, skirts, socks, shoes, pumps, and PE tops. Uniforms come from local school collection points, lost property, individual donations, and new stock from generous partners such as Tesco Extra in Swinton and Sockshop.
The partnership with Sal’s Shoes—a charity that has redistributed over two million pairs of children’s shoes globally—also ensures that children have access to quality footwear.
How to access the uniform hub:
Families who need support can access the service by referral and appointment only. Referrals should be made through the Salford Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) or local schools. Once referred, families will be contacted by Emmaus Salford to arrange a visit to the Hub, located at Emmaus House, 101 Fitzwarren Street, Salford, M6 5RQ.
How you can help:
As the charity prepares for increased demand over the summer, Emmaus Salford is also calling on local residents to donate good-quality school uniforms and shoes their children have outgrown.
Donations should be clean, bagged or boxed, and clearly labelled ‘School Uniform Hub Donations’. Items can be dropped off at the Emmaus Salford Community Homestore during opening hours.
Local businesses and organisations interested in supporting the initiative are encouraged to get in touch to discuss partnership opportunities.
